About

Established in 2002 by Mary Kaswende, Dymphna Special School sits under the shadow of Mount Meru in the Kwa Iddi area of Arusha. The School accepts children and young adults between the ages of three and 25 and currently has 35 students and four teachers.

Mission Statement


The School never stops striving to:
  • raise public awareness of the care and education available to people with special needs;

  • promote a culture of acceptance, integration and social responsibility towards people with special needs in the community;

  • enable people with special needs to function independently within their communities;

  • assist children and families through their assessment and identification of needs; and

  • provide and foster an atmosphere that will lead to confidence and independence in mobility, self-care and self-employment.
